For national tourism, Mexican nationals, on a daily average, each traveler spends around $4,000 Mexican pesos when visiting Puerto Vallarta, or around $200 USD.
The official figures for national visitors to this tourist destination indicate that the spending of tourists in the commercial sector is up to 7 times lower compared to the spending of foreigners.
According to data from the secretariat, the national tourist only spends $414 pesos in local businesses, corresponding to 13% of their daily spending.
60% of what the tourist pays daily in the city corresponds to lodging (2,319 pesos on average, just above $100 USD per day), in addition to their food (472 pesos / 25 dollars), entertainment (374 pesos / 20 dollars) and transportation (113 pesos / 7 dollars).
International tourism in Puerto Vallarta
During 2019 (before the pandemic), international tourists who visited Mexican beaches spent 9.7% more compared to the previous year.
That same year, in their classification by way of entry to Mexico, those who arrived by plane spent an average of $1,001 dollars on their stay (equivalent to 19,522 Mexican pesos). This amount is 12.8% higher than what foreigners spent in 2018.
Foreign tourists who arrived in the country by land spent significantly less on average, only $293 dollars each, which is equal to 5,714 pesos, a figure that is 9.1% less than that registered a year ago, according to figures obtained by the International Traveler Surveys carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
Travelers who arrive in the country by air generate 8 out of every 10 dollars (78.8%) that enter the country for international tourism, while those who entered by land contribute 2 out of 10 (21.2 percent).
