Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – In a significant move to bolster maritime infrastructure and connectivity, the state government has announced the construction of a new dock on Chile Street in downtown Puerto Vallarta. Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro revealed the project at a recent press conference, outlining the 430-million-peso investment aimed at enhancing transport and tourism in the area.
Governor Lemus emphasized that while the Los Muertos dock primarily services the southern part of the port, the new dock, named “Las Peñas,” will cater to the northern route, improving accessibility for both tourists and local residents. “This dock will not only accommodate visitors but will also provide essential maritime transport for locals and workers commuting to the city center,” Lemus explained.
The Las Peñas dock, a fully state-funded initiative, will span 120 meters and feature modern infrastructure. Plans for the dock include concrete piles and metal structures, a walkway with a concrete slab, and an ornamental canopy constructed from steel and metal mesh. Additionally, the dock will feature a viewing platform with a wooden floor, pedestrian pathways with stage lighting, street furniture such as benches, and appropriate signage to enhance the user experience.
The construction of the Las Peñas dock forms part of a larger maritime connectivity plan encompassing the development of 12 public docks across Jalisco. Six of these docks have already been completed, while six others, including Las Peñas, are set to begin construction. The total state investment for this project is estimated at 872.43 million pesos.
The six completed docks include:
- Quimixto
- Punta Pérula
- Melaque
- Los Muertos
- Boca de Tomatlán
- Las Ánimas
The six upcoming docks in addition to Las Peñas are planned for:
- Mismaloya
- Yelapa
- Chimo
- Tehuamixtle Bay
- Barra de Navidad
Furthermore, the project will integrate four private docks to complement the public installations, enhancing the overall maritime network.
The new infrastructure is expected to significantly improve the city’s connectivity and accessibility, fostering economic growth, boosting tourism, and supporting the local population with improved transport options. As Puerto Vallarta continues to grow as a premier tourist destination, the Las Peñas dock project stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
