Security cameras on the border in Arizona, Phoenix, captured the moment when alleged members of the criminal cell “Los Chapitos” tried to shoot down a United States drone, according to American journalist Jaeson Jones.
The journalist shared a video taken by a private company in which he recounts that there is a “Los Chapitos” barracks on the border, 300 meters from Arizona, where armed people are observed.
Jaeson Jones points out that due to the location, one of the key areas for fentanyl trafficking, they must be “Los Chapitos”, because “there is ground zero for fentanyl in the Arizona area”, and “the Sinaloans want the control of certain parties so that they can freely move the lethal fentanyl in the country [the United States]”, he indicates.
During the video, security members are heard saying that they are pulling to their side, and one of them exclaims: “he’s just a child.” It is also observed that the base is formed with bags, stones, and trash, which is located in the municipality of Sáric, 300 meters from the border between the United States and Mexico.
The men caught on video raised their rifles and fired directly at the drone, however, they were unable to shoot it down.
Yesterday, Luis Crescencio Sandoval, head of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), revealed that so far in the current administration, a total of 6,273 kilograms of fentanyl have been seized.
The Secretary of National Defense also highlighted that 1,079 percent more of the synthetic opioid has been secured in this Government compared to the previous one.
In addition, he explained that from January 3 to 16, the authorities confiscated 168 kilograms of fentanyl, which correspond to 167.8 million doses.
WHAT IS FENTANYL?
It is a synthetic opioid similar to morphine, but between 50 and 100 times more powerful, according to the US Institutes of Health (NIH). Precisely because it is like morphine, it is used medically to alleviate chronic pain or for patients suffering from severe pain, especially after surgery.
However, as an illegal drug, it is used because the opioid is one of the most powerful opioids out there, thus creating one of the strongest sensations. Synthetic fentanyl, produced in clandestine laboratories, is illegally sold as a powder, dropped on blotting paper, in eyedrop or nasal spray containers, or in lozenges similar to other prescription opioids, the NIH notes.
“Some drug dealers mix fentanyl with other drugs like heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, and MDMA. They do it because a very small amount of fentanyl causes a high, which makes it a cheaper option,” explains the US agency.
Due to its characteristics, fentanyl is one of the most dangerous drugs, not only because of its effects but also because it quickly produces a dependency that in most cases translates into addiction.
