Civil Protection and Firefighters Monitor Cuale River Following Sudden Flood

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Personnel from the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection and Firefighters in Puerto Vallarta are on high alert following a sudden rise in the Cuale River, which reached 70 percent of its channel’s capacity. This unexpected flooding prompted immediate action to monitor the river closely and alert residents in the surrounding areas about potential evacuation needs.

Gerardo Castellón Andrade, the director of the Municipal Directorate, reported that the flooding occurred suddenly, necessitating prompt response from the agency. “At around 6:30 p.m., we received a report indicating a significant rise in the Cuale River. We immediately initiated preventive surveillance tours, observing that the river had risen to 70 percent of its capacity. As a precautionary measure, we placed witnesses—markers that indicate the water level rise—and continued with our surveillance tours,” Castellón Andrade explained.

Although the river level has started to decrease, the Directorate remains vigilant as heavy rainfall is currently recorded in the Cuale basin. The continuous monitoring aims to ensure the safety of residents and mitigate any potential risks posed by the ongoing weather conditions.

The Cuale River is one of the three main rivers traversing Puerto Vallarta and has a history of overflow incidents. Notably, in 2021, the river overflowed its banks, causing significant damage to the downtown area of Puerto Vallarta. This past event underscores the importance of constant vigilance and preparedness in the face of such natural occurrences.

Residents living near the Cuale River have been advised to stay informed and prepared for any further developments. The Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection and Firefighters is working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the community and minimize the impact of the flooding.

As Puerto Vallarta continues to experience heavy rainfall, authorities are urging residents to follow safety guidelines and remain cautious. The efforts of the Civil Protection and Firefighters team are crucial in safeguarding the community and preventing further incidents.

The city government and emergency services have reiterated their commitment to monitoring the situation closely and providing timely updates to the public. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned to official channels for the latest information and instructions.

In the meantime, the dedication and swift action of the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection and Firefighters in Puerto Vallarta serve as a reminder of the critical role these agencies play in ensuring public safety during emergencies. Their proactive measures and unwavering commitment are instrumental in protecting the lives and properties of those living in vulnerable areas.
