Civil Protection Reiterates Warnings to Over 1,000 Families in High-Risk Areas During Rainy Season

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — In a proactive effort to ensure the safety of residents during the peak of the rainy season, elements of the Civil Protection and Fire Department have intensified their preventive actions, reiterating warnings to 1,065 families living in high-risk areas across the municipality.

As September is forecasted to be the rainiest month of the season, Civil Protection and Firefighters Director Gerardo Castillón Andrade emphasized the critical importance of these warnings. At the beginning of this month, the department identified 11 risk zones within the municipality, areas that are particularly vulnerable to the effects of heavy rains, tropical cyclones, and other hydrometeorological phenomena.

Since the onset of the hurricane and cyclone season, the department has delivered notifications to all 1,065 families registered in the Puerto Vallarta Risk Atlas. These notifications are part of a comprehensive operational plan that aims to reduce the risks associated with severe weather events. The plan includes several stages, beginning with initial warnings and extending to more urgent notifications as weather conditions worsen.

Director Castillón Andrade highlighted that, as the rainy season progresses, the Civil Protection and Fire Department is conducting follow-up visits to the 3,621 individuals living in these high-risk zones. These visits are crucial for ensuring that residents remain aware of the potential dangers and are prepared to act if conditions deteriorate.

“In these areas, our notifications are repeated when we issue yellow or orange alerts,” said Castillón Andrade. “This ensures that the more than 1,000 families are continuously reminded to take preventive measures and stay vigilant, especially when a cyclone or tropical storm is approaching the coast.”

The department’s strategy includes delivering evacuation warnings when an orange alert is issued, indicating a higher level of threat from an approaching storm. “Depending on the risk posed by these hydrometeorological phenomena, an orange alert triggers the need for immediate action, which may include evacuation orders,” explained the director.

These precautionary measures are critical for protecting the lives and properties of residents in high-risk areas, particularly during a season marked by the increased frequency and intensity of storms. The Civil Protection and Fire Department continues to monitor weather patterns closely, ready to implement further measures as necessary to safeguard the community.

As the rainy season reaches its peak, Puerto Vallarta’s Civil Protection and Fire Department remains committed to ensuring that all residents are informed, prepared, and safe. The department urges all residents, especially those in identified risk zones, to heed the warnings and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families from the dangers of severe weather events.
