What is the criteria for the Magical Town? I love Puerto Vallarta but it has become very commercialized with a so many of American businesses ie. Walmart, Home Depot, Starbucks etc. I lived there for ten years in the 80’s and spent a month there this summer. I still love it but was disappointed in the fact that it has lost some of it’s charm as a result of all the commercialization, American influence and overbuilding.
It still holds a special place in my heart though.

Well, I don’t believe Puerto Vallarta even qualifies, just as the tourism department has said. The qualifications really are not as clear as the disqualifications, and the disqualifications are that you cannot be a beach resort town. Clearly Puerto Vallarta is a resort town, that is how the city, state, and federal tourism departments planned and marketed. So I don’t believe it will happen. These are only making news because it has been announced they will be adding several more to the list in 2015 and towns are trying to get the honor, including Sayulita.
