Mexico Open at Vidanta 2025 Tees Off with Global Golf Stars in Nuevo Nayarit

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Mexico Open at Vidanta 2025 has officially begun, bringing together some of the world’s best golfers in one of Latin America’s premier PGA Tour events. The fourth edition of the tournament promises thrilling competition, set against the stunning backdrop of Nuevo Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta.

The prestigious event kicked off with an opening ceremony at The Estates, attended by key figures in the golf world, including Fernando Lemmen Mayer, president of the Mexican Golf Federation; John Norris, VP of Tournament Business Affairs for the PGA Tour; Adrián Castillo, corporate marketing director of Grupo Vidanta; and Rodrigo Suárez Gilly, executive director of the tournament. Together, they welcomed the 132 players who will vie for the championship title.

A Celebration of Sport, Hospitality, and Tourism

“We want to be the benchmark for golf, hospitality, and entertainment,” said Adrián Castillo during a press conference. “In just four years, this tournament has become one of the most significant events in Latin America, not only because of the high level of golf we will witness but also due to the economic benefits it generates. This event allows us to showcase the beauty of Nuevo Nayarit and Puerto Vallarta, the warmth of its people, and the unique experiences this destination offers.”

The tournament will be broadcast in more than 200 countries and territories, giving international audiences a glimpse of Mexico’s vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes. Castillo also highlighted that this year holds special significance as it coincides with Grupo Vidanta’s 50th anniversary, an occasion marked by unique experiences for travelers, world-class entertainment, and exceptional culinary offerings.

Defending Champion Jake Knapp Returns

All eyes are on American golfer Jake Knapp, who returns to defend his title after a dominant performance in last year’s Mexico Open at Vidanta. Knapp secured victory with a final score of -19, finishing two strokes ahead of Sami Valimak and five strokes ahead of Stephan Jäger. This year, he aims to replicate his success and claim back-to-back championships.

Mexico’s Golfers Aim for Glory

The host country will be well represented on the course, with five Mexican golfers competing for the title. Álvaro Ortiz, Santiago de la Fuente, and José Cristóbal will be joined by amateur players Gerardo Gómez and José Antonio Safa, who received special invitations from the PGA Tour. Their participation adds a strong local presence to the tournament, igniting hopes of a homegrown champion.

Tournament Schedule and Venue

The competition will take place from Thursday, February 20, to Sunday, February 23, at the picturesque Vidanta Vallarta course. Known for its challenging fairways and spectacular ocean views, the course will serve as the battleground for elite golfers seeking victory in one of Latin America’s most prestigious tournaments.

With world-class talent, breathtaking scenery, and an atmosphere that blends sport with luxury, the Mexico Open at Vidanta 2025 is set to deliver unforgettable moments for golf enthusiasts around the world.
