People in Guadalajara Asked to Stay Home While Burning Cars Block Roads

Authorities in western Mexico are asking residents to stay at home as they scramble to extinguish burning vehicles blocking roads in various parts of Guadalajara.

The prosecutor’s office in the western state of Jalisco used its Twitter account to ask residents of Guadalajara to remain calm Friday morning as authorities responded to the suspected blockades ignited by a drug cartel.

Such blockades are a common cartel response to the arrest of important members or are used to foil police and military operations.

The activity came as Mexico celebrated the May 1 holiday and the federal government announced the implementation of “Operation Jalisco” to improve the state’s security without providing further details.

Last month, the Jalisco New Generation cartel killed 15 state police officers in an ambush.

Hours after the attacks in Guadalajara, attacks were reported in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and 17 other municipalities in the state.

    1. Yes, we are filing a story on that in just a moment. What we know is 5 gas stations were set on fire along with vandalizing several banks. The activities in GDL and in PV seem to be connected with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

    1. As it was today in Turkey, and Italy, Greece, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan… ‘protests’ quickly turned into arson and assaults.
In smaller communities I’m sure all it took was one gas station going up in flames for the protesters to all go running away…

    4. Oscar, screw off. we are deleting your comment that people were shot and killed on the Malecon because it is not true. You are also telling people authorities have asked them to stay locked in their houses. We have contacted Villa de Palmar to confirm if you are really an employee there and have asked for a statement from them about their employee willfully spreading lies in an effort to hurt tourism. So f-off.

    5. BTW. I am blocking this other account from our site too. I am sure you will come up with many more accounts. Liars always work hard to get their story heard. Your 15 minutes of non-fame is done here.

    6. Don’t quite see your point, Harold. The incidents that occurred across Jalisco were perpetuated by the Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel in retaliation for recent arrests of high-ranking members. It’s not a May Day related protest.

    7. If you say so. But I’m not listening to the corrupt Government reports or the fools they just had to block here who are claiming that as well.
They also claimed there are bodies all over the Malecon, that all of Jalisco has been burned to the ground, and that all of the shooting was a failed attempted coup by the US Government.
I don’t think it was a coincidence that it happened at the exact same time these same kind of attacks were happening all over the World.
Were the Mexican Cartels also responsible for the same violence in over a dozen European countries?
I’ll believe my own eyes before I take the word of this Government and the Cartels…

    8. Fair enough, I’m certainly not trying to change your opinion. I live here and I’m sensitive to people posting misinformation. And FYI, the Mexican media hasn’t reported bodies on the malecon, nor an attempted US govt coup.
