After months of investigations, the Special Regional Prosecutor’s Office of District VIII, in Jalisco, announced the arrest of a police officer from the State of Mexico who is accused of murdering his girlfriend and fellow police officer while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta.
The tragedy occurred on October 4, when the 23-year-old woman was found in a hotel located in Puerto Vallarta, in the Las Mojoneras neighborhood. The lifeless body of the victim showed traces of violence.
Hotel personnel alerted the authorities, who began an investigation, it was then that agents of the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office conducted inquiries that initially allowed the identity of the victim to be established, who turned out to also work as a traffic police officer in the municipality of Chimalhuacan, State of Mexico.
When there was sufficient evidence against Jorge Isael R., the Public Ministry requested an arrest warrant against him, for his probable responsibility in the commission of the crime of femicide.
After the investigations, the authorities located the subject in the state of Puebla, for which they requested the collaboration of the government of the state to finalize his capture, which occurred in San Juan Cuautlancingo.
The subject was handed over to the Investigative Police of District VIII who transferred him to Jalisco, where he was placed at the disposal of the Control Judge attached to the Justice Center for Women of Puerto Vallarta.
In Mexico, 3,750 women were murdered in 2021, of which 1,004 were classified as femicides, according to data from the National Public Security System. And up to September of this year, there have been 695 femicides, a figure that is below the 736 for the same period last year.
Regarding the period January-September 2022, there were 2,847 murders of women in the country (presumed victims of femicide plus presumed victims of intentional homicide) and despite this, only 695 investigations for femicide were opened.
