Puerto Vallarta (PVDN) – With protestors blocking Puerto Vallarta’s main road, tourists were forced to run down the streets with luggage trying to catch their departing flights.
Protesters blocking passage from Las Palamas to Francisco Medina have caused chaos on the streets of Puerto Vallarta and airplane delays at the international airport. Public transport also reported that 70 buses had to be removed from circulation due to the road closure.
With the main street from Puerto Vallarta to the airport being blocked, tourists are forced to walk to the airport, leaving airlines to make the decision to delay departures so passengers can arrive at the airport. Some have already been rescheduled on flights for tomorrow.
The protests are against new vehicle inspections that began this month in the state of Jalisco. Protestors are both for and against the vehicle inspections and protestors have demanded a government representative to arrive at the protest to negotiate the withdraw from the streets. After six hours of protest, still, no government official has met the demand.
At least three people have been transferred to the hospital, presumably from heat-related illness.

The original protest was scheduled at the vehicle verification center in Puerto Vallarta without interrupting traffic or tourist activities. However, the protest grew to over 200 people and 100 vehicles overflowing into the streets.
The Governor of Jalisco informed protestors that vehicle inspections were not going to be suspended and they are here to stay. He claims protests are organized by those individuals who were using the old inspection system for corruption and black market sales of verification stickers and they are organizing protests by spreading misinformation within the population.
