Puerto Vallarta Begins 2025 with Strong Tourism Performance and High Hotel Occupancy

Puerto Vallarta closed 2024 with near-record hotel occupancy, nearly reaching full capacity for the start of 2025, according to preliminary reports from the Hotel and Motel Association. The results surpassed the expectations set by the destination’s hotel and tourism sectors, highlighting a successful year driven by coordinated promotional efforts and a series of high-profile events throughout December.

According to data from the federal Ministry of Tourism’s (Sectur) Datatur system, hotel occupancy averaged 76.1% during the week of December 2-8. This figure experienced a minor dip to 73.9% for the week of December 9-15, but rebounded to 76.1% during December 16-22. Occupancy surged during the holiday season, reaching a reported 97% on peak days, according to preliminary municipal data. By New Year’s Eve, most hotels were at full capacity. On Thursday, January 2, occupancy levels remained high at 85%, with some hotels reporting rates as high as 90%. Hoteliers expressed optimism for a strong beginning to 2025.

The bustling tourist activity was evident along the popular areas of Puerto Vallarta, including the beaches, Malecón, and Marina Vallarta. An influx of visitors arrived by air and road, contributing to the vibrant scene. Cruise ships also brought large numbers of international tourists, as the cruise season peaked with multiple arrivals each week.

In addition to hotel stays, many visitors opted for private accommodations such as apartments and homes listed on online platforms. This alternative lodging sector played a crucial role in accommodating the large influx of tourists celebrating the arrival of 2025.

Puerto Vallarta’s improving air connectivity contributed significantly to the influx of visitors. The destination’s ability to attract tourists from diverse markets reflects ongoing investments in expanding flight routes and enhancing airport facilities.

Weather conditions also favored Puerto Vallarta. While other regions of Mexico experienced the impacts of cold fronts from the north, Puerto Vallarta maintained a warm and inviting climate. This weather advantage further solidified the destination as a top choice for tourists seeking a pleasant escape.

The positive performance of Puerto Vallarta’s tourism sector underscores the success of collaborative promotion and strategic event planning. As the city moves into 2025, tourism stakeholders anticipate sustained growth and continued success in positioning Puerto Vallarta as a leading destination for both domestic and international travelers.
