Jalisco Starts Investigation into 19 Companies Linked to Puerto Vallarta Timeshare Fraud

Puerto Vallarta (PVDN) – Following the release of a list by the United States Department of the Treasury identifying 19 Puerto Vallarta companies allegedly connected to a timeshare fraud network operated by the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel, the State Attorney’s Office has launched investigations to determine if any of these companies were involved in criminal activities.

Ricardo Sánchez Beruben, the Strategic Coordinator of State Security, explained that they are cross-referencing information with different areas of the Prosecutor’s Office. However, it is still too early to determine whether any of the companies participated in the frauds. He emphasized that the investigation into potential money laundering is not within the purview of the State Prosecutor’s Office, as it only deals with matters of common jurisdiction.

Sánchez Beruben clarified, “In our case, it would be a property crime, related to the issue of fraud, not the issue of operating with resources of illicit origin, nor the issue of organized crime.”

Moreover, the State Prosecutor’s Office is examining whether there are any existing complaints regarding fraud against any of the 19 companies implicated by the Treasury Department for having ties to the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel.

On Thursday, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury froze the assets of seven individuals and 19 companies based in Puerto Vallarta due to their involvement in a timeshare scam, primarily targeting older US citizens.
