Puerto Vallarta is Home to One of Mexico’s Cleanest Beaches, and One of the Dirtiest

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As the holiday season approaches, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has released its latest analysis on the sanitary conditions of beaches across the country. Conducted on 289 beaches with high tourist influx, the study aimed to determine which coastal destinations meet the established criteria for safe recreational use.

According to the recent report, the majority of beaches in Mexico maintain conditions suitable for swimming and other leisure activities. However, six beaches have been classified as unsuitable due to elevated contamination levels, representing a potential health risk for visitors.

Most Polluted Beaches in Mexico:

  • Rosarito Beach, Rosarito, Baja California
  • Rosarito Beach I, Rosarito, Baja California
  • Tijuana Beach, Tijuana, Baja California
  • Tijuana Beach I, Tijuana, Baja California
  • Icacos Beach, Acapulco, Guerrero
  • Oasis Beach, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco

Despite these findings, many beaches still meet rigorous quality standards and have been identified as particularly clean and safe, offering visitors confidence as they select a destination for their upcoming vacation.

Cleanest Beaches in Mexico:

  • Esmeralda Resort, Puerto Peñasco, Sonora
  • Santa María, Los Cabos, Baja California Sur
  • Nuevo Nayarit, Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit
  • Sheraton, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco

  • El Palmar I, Zihuatanejo de Azueta, Guerrero

Cofepris underscores the importance of maintaining clean coastal environments. Vacationers are encouraged to dispose of waste responsibly and report any irregularities related to water quality or sanitation to local Beach Committees, as well as through official channels provided by Cofepris and the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).

Before finalizing travel plans, visitors are advised to review official data regarding beach conditions, ensuring that their chosen destination adheres to safety criteria. By prioritizing certified-clean locations and contributing to their preservation, travelers can ensure a healthier, more enjoyable holiday experience for themselves and others.
