Puerto Vallarta Set to Host Array of Cultural and Tourist Events in Early 2024

Puerto Vallarta, known for its vibrant culture and tourism, is poised to host an array of cultural and tourist events in the first quarter of 2024. Luis Jesús Escoto Martínez, the director of the Vallartense Institute of Culture (IVC), has announced a lineup of events designed to cater to both locals and visitors. These events include the eighth edition of the Reading Fair, the Madonnari International Festival, El Carnaval, and the “Dama Juana” Raicilla Festival.

As the city fine-tunes its annual events agenda for 2024, Martínez notes the inclusion of both new and traditional events that have historically received strong support from Vallarta residents, the business community, and tourists alike.

One of the highlights is the Puerto Vallarta Reading Fair 2024, scheduled from January 25 to February 5. This event will feature a diverse collection of books and aims to create a space for promoting reading at the Ignacio L. Vallarta Plaza de Armas.

Following the Reading Fair, the Madonnari 2024 Festival will take place from February 9 to 11. Organized by the Puerto Vallarta-Santa Bárbara Sister Cities Committee, the festival will see the participation of 21 professional artists from Puerto Vallarta and other regions of Mexico. This event, which invites children and adults to create chalk artworks on the Plaza de Armas floor, is free for all participants.

Additionally, the Puerto Vallarta Carnival, set for February 22 to 24, promises a festive atmosphere filled with music and celebration. The carnival will feature a grand parade through the city center, themed stages, and the coronation of queens of the LGBT community and the ugly king, among other activities. Around 20,000 attendees are expected.

March will see the Dama Juana Raicilla Festival, which offers a rich program of talks, workshops, music, and activities centered around the traditional Raicilla drink.

Martínez emphasizes the incredible response these events have garnered, with increasing participation from private enterprises, locals, and tourists. He remarks that Puerto Vallarta offers more than just partying, dining, and beach activities; it is also a hub for diverse cultural events, festivals, and artistic activities supported by both the IVC and private initiatives.

He also acknowledges the crucial role of local businesses in supporting cultural and tourist events, contributing resources such as funding, artist accommodation, flights, and more. Educational institutions in the city also lend their talent to these activities.

The IVC director concludes by stating that the full annual events agenda for Puerto Vallarta, which includes events of national and international renown, will be published in the coming days, promising a year rich in cultural experiences and festivities.
