Red Flag Alert Issued for Several Nayarit Beaches Due to Dangerous Sea Conditions

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The General Directorate of Citizen Protection and Firefighters of the State of Nayarit has issued a red flag alert for multiple beaches across the region, indicating unsafe sea conditions and resulting in temporary closures. The announcement was made to the media before 12 p.m., though conflicting information appears on official social media channels.

Among the affected areas are the popular beaches of Guayabitos in the municipality of Compostela, as well as Lo de Marcos and Bucerías in Banderas Bay. These locations are currently experiencing strong rip currents and high waves, making them particularly hazardous for water activities.

In Guayabitos, lifeguards have specifically warned about the especially dangerous currents. Nearby beaches such as Los Ayala and Chacala have been marked with a yellow flag, permitting access to the sea but urging swimmers to exercise extreme caution.

In San Blas, beaches like Las Islitas display a green flag, indicating favorable conditions for bathers. However, other spots such as Las Brujas and the Nuevo Muelle are under a yellow flag warning.

Safety Recommendations for Tourists and Locals

Authorities are urging both visitors and residents to pay close attention to warning signs posted on the beaches and to opt for areas with lifeguard supervision. Red flags signal a high risk for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts, indicating that entering the sea should be avoided until further notice.

“We strongly advise everyone to respect the flag warnings for their own safety,” a spokesperson for the General Directorate said. “Your cooperation is essential in preventing accidents and ensuring a safe environment for all.”
