PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – The Green Patrol unit of the Puerto Vallarta Citizen Security Police Station has been making commendable strides in addressing concerns about local flora and fauna in the region.
The team, which operates in three shifts, has tackled 761 genuine wildlife-related reports over the past six months. This figure also includes the handling of 210 false reports.
Canine-related incidents formed a large part of their agenda with 87 reports of aggressive dogs, 74 dog bites, and 40 injured dogs among other cases. The patrol also attended to numerous reports involving neglected, mistreated, run-over, and abandoned dogs. A total of 26 dogs were donated as part of their efforts.
The Green Patrol also took action on 52 cat-related reports. These involved stuck cats, injured, abandoned, run-over, poisoned, sick, aggressive cats, and several reports of cats found dead.
Reptile-related reports were also frequent. There were 27 reports of iguanas out of their habitat and 14 of garrobos, a local lizard species, in similar situations. The team also dealt with cases involving turtles, handling 28 reports of turtles spawning, six births, and 17 nests handed over to ecology personnel.
Crocodile-related issues included nine reports of crocodiles outside their habitats and one report of a crocodile bite. Wildlife reports also included cases involving dolphins, pelicans, owls, various birds, snakes, opossums, raccoons, and horses.
Plant-related cases were attended to as well, with four instances of illegal tree felling and two reports of unlawful rubble dumping.
Rigoberto Flores Parra, who oversees the Citizen Security Police Station, affirmed that the unit will remain committed to upholding the mandate of Municipal President Luis Alberto Michel Rodríguez. Their aim is to ensure the safety and well-being of the numerous species that make Puerto Vallarta a unique and special tourist destination.
