Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — Researchers from the Centro Universitario de la Costa and the Citizen Observatory of the Historic Center of Puerto Vallarta, in collaboration with the Municipal Government, have announced plans to establish a Cultural Heritage Information Center. The initiative aims to promote research and protect the city’s cultural assets.
Project participants recently met with Guadalupe Basulto, head of the Vallarta Institute of Culture, to begin designing the center. The proposal is expected to be presented soon to the institute’s governing board and the residents of Puerto Vallarta.
Professor Paola Cortés, head of the Department of Arts, Education, and Humanities at the Centro Universitario de la Costa, expressed gratitude for the support from Municipal President Luis Munguía. “His backing is crucial in giving greater importance to cultural issues in the city,” Cortés said, emphasizing the goal to consolidate the municipal culture program for 2024-2027.
The Cultural Heritage Information Center is envisioned as a cornerstone for various initiatives. These include conducting historical and anthropological research on Puerto Vallarta, creating a digital platform to inform citizens about the state of the municipality’s cultural heritage, and protecting both movable and immovable cultural assets.
By fostering collaboration between academic institutions, government bodies, and the community, the center aims to ensure the preservation and appreciation of Puerto Vallarta’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.
