Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Twenty hours after a serious tanker truck accident on Federal Highway 200 Sur, authorities continue to work on clearing the scene and restoring access in the border area between Cabo Corrientes and Tomatlán.
On Thursday morning, a collision involving a pickup truck and a trailer pulling two tanker trucks loaded with over 60,000 liters of fuel forced officials to close the highway. The incident, which occurred near the locality of El Piloto, resulted in the vehicles being severely damaged and left hazardous fuel on site.
Tomatlán Mayor Daniel Ruiz Benavides took to social media to update residents and commuters, confirming that transfer work and removal of the damaged units are still underway. “Maneuvers continue in the area of yesterday’s accident near El Piloto,” he stated, urging drivers to remain patient amid ongoing efforts.
In an attempt to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure safety for light vehicles, authorities have opened an alternate route from El Tigre to Habal. Motorists are advised to utilize this detour while Federal Highway 200 remains closed until all necessary work is completed.
Local emergency services and highway crews are working diligently to secure the area, transfer fuel safely, and remove all damaged vehicles. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the region, prompting officials to call for caution and preparedness as repairs continue.
