Double Cruise Ship Arrival Boosts Puerto Vallarta Tourism With More Than 6,000 Passengers

Puerto Vallarta witnessed its first double cruise ship arrival of December, welcoming a combined total of 6,688 passengers and 2,690 crew members aboard the Discovery Princess and the Majestic Princess. The simultaneous docking of these massive vessels marked a significant boost for the local tourism industry.

The 329-meter-long Discovery Princess was the first to dock at Pier 2, arriving at 6:15 a.m. Originating from Mazatlán, the ship carried 3,755 passengers and 1,370 crew members. This vessel is on a journey that began on November 30 and is scheduled to conclude on December 7 in Los Angeles, California. Passengers had the opportunity to explore Puerto Vallarta’s scenic beauty and cultural attractions during their stay.

Shortly after, at 7:45 a.m., the 330-meter-long Majestic Princess arrived from Los Angeles. Carrying 2,933 passengers and 1,320 crew members, this cruise ship is en route to Puerto San Antonio, Chile. The voyage started on December 1 and is set to end on December 19. The passengers enjoyed the warm hospitality and vibrant offerings of Puerto Vallarta before continuing their southbound journey.

The arrival of these two cruise ships brought a substantial economic boost to the city. With an average expenditure of $120 per person—including port taxes—the estimated economic impact exceeds $1,125,000 for the day. Tourists engaged in various activities such as shopping for local crafts, dining in seaside restaurants, exploring historic sites, and participating in water sports.

Local businesses, from street vendors to tour operators, benefited from the influx of visitors. The tourism board expressed optimism about the continued growth of cruise ship arrivals, emphasizing the importance of the industry to the city’s economy.

This double arrival sets a positive tone for the rest of the month, as Puerto Vallarta anticipates more cruise ships during the holiday season. The city continues to enhance its port facilities and tourist attractions to accommodate the growing number of international visitors.

Residents and officials are enthusiastic about the opportunities these arrivals bring, not only in terms of economic gains but also for cultural exchange and the promotion of Puerto Vallarta as a premier travel destination on the Mexican Pacific coast.

Both cruise ships adhered to strict health protocols to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and local residents. Measures included health screenings, sanitization procedures, and controlled disembarkation processes. Local authorities collaborated with cruise lines to maintain a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

The community welcomed the visitors with traditional music and festivities, showcasing the rich culture and friendly spirit of Puerto Vallarta. Tourists expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the array of activities available during their stopover.
