Foreign Tourists Are Flocking to Puerto Vallarta’s Beaches

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — Puerto Vallarta, known for its pristine beaches and vibrant culture, continues to draw tourists from across the globe. During the holiday season, visitors from England emerge as a significant demographic. Reports indicate that the tourist destination is experiencing occupancy rates exceeding 90% over Easter Week.

Christian Preciado Cázares, Director of Tourism for Puerto Vallarta, highlighted the diversification of visitors, stating, “2% directly come from Manchester, England, contributing to the European influx. Additionally, 31% originate from Canada, with major cities like Toronto, Vancouver, and Victoria leading the way. However, the bulk, accounting for 44%, hail from the United States, predominantly from cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York.”

Domestic tourism also plays a significant role, constituting 23% of visitors arriving from various cities across Mexico, including Toluca, Monterrey, and Mexico City. Cázares noted a notable increase in Canadian tourists, now comprising 30% of the total influx.

Despite the robust visitor numbers, concerns arise regarding accommodation capacity. Cázares emphasized the demand for additional rooms, as hotel occupancy rates consistently reach between 85% to 96%, with some establishments reporting full reservations as early as Wednesday leading up to Holy Week, particularly family-oriented hotels.

Puerto Vallarta’s beaches, an integral part of its allure, are certified for recreational use during the spring vacation period, adhering to the Official Mexican Standard NMXAA120SCFI2016 for environmental quality, health, safety, and service sustainability. Tourists are encouraged to explore the ten pristine beaches of Jalisco, including Yelapa, Las Ánimas, and Mismaloya, all of which meet stringent quality standards.

To ensure the safety and cleanliness of these coastal treasures, constant monitoring is conducted, especially in anticipation of holiday crowds. Recent assessments by the Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks of Jalisco (Coprisjal) confirm the suitability of these beaches for recreational activities.

The seawater quality monitoring program, initiated in 2003, involves rigorous sampling and analysis, with results indicating compliance with national standards. According to the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), beaches in Puerto Vallarta maintain water quality suitable for recreational use, with minimal risk factors such as storm drains.

As Puerto Vallarta continues to attract a diverse array of visitors, efforts to maintain the pristine condition of its beaches remain paramount, ensuring an unforgettable experience for tourists from around the world.
