The second installment of the gastronomic affair “Sabor en Competencia” is slated to grace Puerto Vallarta on March 15, aiming to spotlight municipal markets and their array of offerings. Unlike its debut at the Emiliano Zapata market last year, this year’s edition will unfold at Parque Hidalgo, playing host to seven anticipated restaurant contenders.
During a press briefing, organizers unveiled the event’s particulars, anticipating a broader restaurant turnout compared to last year’s inaugural event. Presently, three eateries have confirmed their participation, underscoring the event’s emphasis on market promotion, despite the shift in venue to Parque Hidalgo, justified by the higher number of participating establishments.
Logistically, festivities kick off at 4:30 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. with the awards ceremony. Chefs will be allotted 59 minutes to craft a dish of their choosing, which will be evaluated by a panel comprising chefs Pablo Antonio Díaz and Alejandra Aisury Delgado.
The culinary showdown boasts cash rewards: the top spot clinches 8,500 pesos, while the runners-up secure 5,500 pesos for second place and 3,500 pesos for third place, respectively.
A stipulation of the competition mandates that all dish preparations must exclusively feature ingredients sourced from municipal markets. The call for participation remains open until February 29.
Future iterations of the event are envisaged, including a children’s edition slated to unfold at Mercado del Mar in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood.
