Los Cabos, Baja California Sur – The Cabo San Lucas Fire Department has launched a free weekly training program aimed at educating the community in disaster prevention and emergency response. These courses, held every Monday, serve to prepare residents for common regional hazards such as hurricanes, fires, and medical emergencies.
Juan Carbajal, Fire Commander of Cabo San Lucas, emphasized the department’s focus on reaching all age groups, particularly students. “These courses are available to schools. From there, the prevention battalion starts its work, with the primary objective to spread this type of training throughout the school sector—from preschool to universities,” Carbajal explained. The program also includes community-wide lectures on topics such as hurricane preparedness, explaining the early warning systems and appropriate safety measures.
Learn essential skills
The training covers a range of essential skills, including first aid and the proper use of fire extinguishers. The courses hold official endorsements and certifications, providing participants with recognized credentials. According to Carbajal, the program is registered with the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), the State and Municipal Civil Protection authorities, and the Ministry of Labor, ensuring that instructors deliver training with official validity.
Residents interested in participating are encouraged to visit the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department facilities for more information and to enroll in the courses.
This initiative reflects the fire department’s commitment not only to emergency response but also to proactive prevention and community resilience in the face of natural disasters and everyday hazards.
