Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a decisive move to bolster the fight against gender-based violence, Puerto Vallarta has joined Jalisco’s “Peace Neighborhoods” (Barrios de Paz) Program. The initiative, aimed at promoting equality and preventing violence within communities, received enthusiastic support during a recent City Council session.
The program was formally approved following the presentation of a proposal by Mayor Luis Munguía. The initiative, set for the 2025 fiscal year, includes the signing of an agreement along with a technical annex with the Government of the State of Jalisco. This partnership will channel financial resources of up to 1.5 million pesos into local projects designed to prevent violence and promote gender equality.
Led by the Secretariat for Substantive Equality between Women and Men of Jalisco, the “Peace Neighborhoods” Program seeks to strengthen community efforts to combat violence and reshape harmful social norms. Its focus on preventing violence and fostering healthier masculinities aligns with broader goals to create safer, more equitable communities.
With the approval of this initiative, Puerto Vallarta City Council has reiterated its commitment to fighting inequality and violence. The city’s participation in the program marks a significant step in joining the Jalisco State Government’s broader strategy to create environments where all residents can feel secure and valued.
As the fiscal year 2025 approaches, community leaders and local organizations in Puerto Vallarta are preparing to implement a series of projects under the program’s framework, hoping to set a benchmark for other municipalities in the region. The collaborative effort underscores a unified vision for a future where gender equality and safety are at the forefront of public policy and community development.
