PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – The mystery surrounding the discovery of skeletal remains in a rural area of Puerto Vallarta is yet to be resolved, according to State Prosecutor Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruiz.
On his visit to Puerto Vallarta to participate in the Navy Day celebrations, the state prosecutor insisted the discovery is not a clandestine grave, as previously reported. Instead, the skeletal remains were found at separate locations in the vicinity. He further announced that sweep operations by the Special Prosecutor for Disappeared Persons are continuing.
"We are committed to working collaboratively and fulfilling the demands of concerned groups," said Méndez Ruiz, adding that they had been coordinating with groups of mothers seeking their disappeared children.
According to a recent update from the Office of the Disappeared Prosecutor, some bone fragments have been discovered and secured. These are currently being processed at the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences. Méndez Ruiz highlighted that the next crucial step is to continue scouring the area, working diligently until they can confidently rule out any further findings.
"It's not a grave that's been reported to me; we are processing several sites where bone remains were found," Méndez Ruiz clarified. He emphasized the importance of waiting for full processing before releasing information, to avoid causing unnecessary alarm or confusion.
The state prosecutor referred to a public online page that offers updates on located victims and discovered graves, ensuring transparency in this unsettling matter. He reiterated the necessity of thoroughly exhausting all leads, stressing their responsibility to investigate all locations provided, even with the smallest amount of information.
"We are obliged to exhaust and we have found some findings and indications, as you have already been able to tell, here in Puerto Vallarta," he expressed.
The discovery came on Saturday, May 27, when a group of search mothers found bone remains, along with women's hair and clothing near the community of El Colorado, in Puerto Vallarta. Initial suspicions pointed towards a clandestine grave, potentially even a site where bodies had been burned. However, as reiterated by the prosecutor, the investigations continue, and caution must be exercised before drawing any definitive conclusions.
