Puerto Vallarta Shines in 2025 Holiday Tourism Forecast

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Federal Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) has released its holiday forecast for the upcoming Easter and Passover period from April 12 to April 26, 2025, highlighting strong national tourism trends and an expected uptick in visitor spending.

Among the top destinations, Puerto Vallarta is projected to have an occupancy rate of 82.7 percent, placing it fifth nationwide. Leading the pack is Nuevo Nayarit with 88.3 percent, followed by the Riviera Maya (87.1 percent), Cancun (84.0 percent), and Los Cabos (83.2 percent). Additional popular spots forecasted for high occupancy include Huatulco Bay at 80.2 percent and Mazatlan at 71.4 percent.

According to Sectur, a total of 14,756,000 tourists will travel across the country during this holiday period—2.1 percent more than the number recorded in 2024. The expected average national occupancy rate is 65.7 percent, a 2.2 percentage point boost compared to the previous year.

Officials also anticipate that 6,578,000 tourists will stay in hotels, with the majority—4,852,000—being domestic visitors. Meanwhile, nearly 7.5 million domestic tourists and more than 700,000 international travelers are expected to seek alternative accommodations, including stays with friends, family, or through digital platforms.

Total spending on tourism is forecast to reach 282.011 billion pesos, marking a 4.4 percent rise over the same period in 2024. Income from lodging alone is predicted to surpass 15.716 billion pesos, underscoring the robust momentum in Mexico’s tourism sector.

Local businesses, hoteliers, and government officials view these figures as a sign of continuing recovery and growth within the industry, setting the stage for a busy spring holiday season in coastal destinations and beyond.
