Puerto Vallarta, July 17, 2024 – The Municipal Council for Culture and the Arts of Puerto Vallarta has greenlit a groundbreaking initiative aimed at spotlighting the rich artistic talent within the municipality. This development involves the creation of an extensive directory of local artists, which will be accessible on the Vallarta Institute of Culture (IVC) website, promising both national and international visibility.
In a council session led by interim mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil, Brenda Janeth Díaz Flores, director of the IVC, elaborated on the directory’s structure and purpose. The directory will categorize artists based on their specific artistic disciplines and feature detailed profiles that include their career achievements, key works, and contact information. This initiative is envisioned as a valuable resource for those seeking information on Puerto Vallarta’s cultural contributors.
“This directory will serve as a pivotal consultation tool, enabling both locals and visitors to easily discover and connect with the diverse array of artists and cultural agents in our region,” stated Díaz Flores.
In addition to the directory, the council endorsed the formation of working groups dedicated to defining and advancing various cultural projects. These groups are intended to ensure that the positive cultural developments achieved during the current administration are preserved and built upon in the future.
Highlighted projects include:
- Municipal Museum: Establishing a museum to showcase the historical and cultural heritage of Puerto Vallarta.
- Chromatic Intervention of the Historic Center: Revitalizing the downtown area through artistic color schemes and murals.
- Municipal Chronicle Office and Historical Archive: Creating an office dedicated to preserving and chronicling the city’s history.
- Rescue of Pre-Hispanic Remains in Aztatlán: In collaboration with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), efforts to preserve and highlight the archaeological site in Ixtapa.
- Local Artists’ Exhibition Space: Developing a dedicated venue for local artists to display their work.
- Oral Storytelling Festival: Initiating a festival to celebrate and promote the art of oral storytelling.
- Rescue of the Cuale Photography Laboratory: Restoring the Cuale laboratory for photographic arts and historical preservation.
Mayor Martínez Gil emphasized the significance of these initiatives in diversifying Puerto Vallarta’s cultural and tourist attractions. “We are making meaningful progress on the Aztatlán archaeological zone project with the INAH and property owners. Securing resources for this project is the next step, as it will be pivotal in expanding Puerto Vallarta’s appeal as a multifaceted tourist destination,” he remarked.
Further strengthening the city’s cultural infrastructure, Díaz Flores announced that Puerto Vallarta will host the second meeting of cultural directors from municipalities across Jalisco on August 30 and 31. This event, sponsored by the state’s Ministry of Culture, aims to foster collaboration and exchange of best practices among cultural leaders.
The session concluded with the approval of the IVC’s annual activity report, showcasing the accomplishments and cultural advancements of the past year. This comprehensive approach underscores Puerto Vallarta’s commitment to nurturing and promoting its cultural heritage, ensuring that the city remains a vibrant hub for both residents and visitors alike.
