Puerto Vallarta Ushers in Cruise Season With 15 Scheduled Arrivals This October

PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) — The idyllic port city of Puerto Vallarta is set to experience a bustling month as it welcomes the high season of international tourist cruises commencing this October. According to the Administration of the National Port System Puerto Vallarta, SA de CV, the city is expecting 15 scheduled cruise ship arrivals, including two double arrivals and a unique stay that will span two calendar days without constituting an overnight visit.

On Tuesday, October 3rd, Puerto Vallarta’s port saw its first double arrival of the season with the docking of the Carnival Panorama and the Navigator of the Seas. Both vessels are expected to remain in the harbor until late evening, making it a bustling day for local tourism and businesses.

Scheduled for arrival on Wednesday is the Fridtjof Nansen, a Norwegian cruise ship named in honor of the legendary polar explorer and scientist Fridtjof Nansen. The vessel is an almost identical counterpart to the MS Roald Amundsen and can accommodate 530 passengers. With a displacement of nearly 21,000 tons, the ship is renowned for its smaller, more intimate setting.

Following this week, Puerto Vallarta’s port is expecting three more arrivals. Another double arrival is anticipated on Wednesday, October 18th, featuring the Discovery Princess and the Silver Wind. The latter is a smaller vessel with a capacity for just 296 passengers and a displacement of 17,400 tons.

Only three cruise ships are scheduled to arrive for the week of October 22nd to 28th. However, it’s worth noting that the Navigator of the Seas is slated for an unconventional visit. The ship will arrive early on Thursday, October 26th, and depart at 1 a.m. on Friday, October 27th, a schedule that does not constitute an overnight stay.

It’s crucial to remember that last October saw 23 arrivals and recorded cancellations due to tropical cyclones affecting the area. The current meteorological outlook for this month also indicates the formation of a hurricane, with another potential cyclone brewing, raising questions on whether weather conditions could impact the schedule again.

The cruise season is a significant contributor to Puerto Vallarta’s economy. Despite potential challenges posed by weather conditions, the city is poised for a busy month ahead, welcoming tourists from around the globe.
