Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – In a coordinated operation, the Mexican Navy (Semar) successfully intercepted a smaller boat carrying nearly 1,200 liters of fuel and arrested three alleged offenders southeast of Puerto Vallarta. The operation, carried out through aerial and maritime surveillance, underscores Semar’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities at sea and uphold the rule of law.
According to Semar, the operation began when personnel aboard a surveillance aircraft spotted a suspicious vessel equipped with two outboard motors and three crew members. Upon noticing the presence of naval forces, the alleged offenders attempted to evade capture by throwing 29 fuel drums into the sea.
Swift action by Semar personnel aboard an Interceptor Patrol vessel and two Defender-type boats led to the recovery of the drums, the seizure of the smaller vessel, and the arrest of the three individuals. The suspects were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation, with Semar emphasizing that their physical integrity was respected in compliance with human rights protocols.
Semar reiterated its commitment to deterring criminal activities at sea, ensuring the safety and security of Mexico’s maritime zones. This operation highlights the agency’s continued vigilance and dedication to maintaining the rule of law in the region.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the intended destination of the seized fuel or the identities of the alleged offenders. Investigations are ongoing, and further details are expected to be released as the case develops.
