Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — In a significant step towards environmental preservation, hundreds of volunteers gathered to clean the Pitillal River, collecting nearly 7 tons of trash in a successful effort led by local authorities and environmental advocates.
The initiative, spearheaded by Councilor Christian Omar Bravo Carbajal, who presides over the Free, Clean, and Certified Beaches Building Committee, continues to gain momentum across Puerto Vallarta. This latest cleanup campaign was bolstered by the participation of fellow councilors Víctor Bernal Vargas, Marcia Bañuelos, and Dalila Castañeda, alongside municipal officials and environmental organizations.
The collaborative effort drew support from the Red Ambiental company, responsible for waste management in the city, as well as members of the National and Military Guard, and representatives from the Red Rehabilita. Municipal department directors also lent their support to the campaign, which lasted approximately three hours.
During the cleanup, a wide variety of waste was removed from the river, including discarded furniture, countless plastic bags, straws, clothing, and footwear. Councilor Bravo Carbajal emphasized the importance of ongoing community engagement to protect Puerto Vallarta’s natural resources, urging residents to maintain clean public spaces.
“This effort is a clear demonstration of how we can all come together to make a positive impact on our environment. However, keeping our city clean is a shared responsibility,” said Bravo Carbajal.
The initiative aligns with the efforts of the municipal government, led by Mayor Luis Munguía, to foster greater environmental awareness and civic participation in sustainability initiatives. The administration is committed to maintaining cleaner public spaces and educating the community about environmental stewardship.
As Puerto Vallarta continues to develop, the protection of its rivers and beaches remains crucial for the preservation of its natural beauty and ecological balance. Community leaders highlighted the importance of regular cleanup events as part of a broader strategy to promote a sustainable future for the region.
“The municipal government is making significant efforts, but we need the support of every citizen,” Bravo Carbajal stressed. “Respecting and caring for our public spaces is essential if we are to preserve the unique natural environment of Puerto Vallarta.”
Environmental advocates expressed hope that the success of the Pitillal River cleanup will inspire ongoing civic action and greater respect for the region’s natural resources. Organizers are already planning future cleanup initiatives and educational campaigns to build on the momentum generated by this event.
The call to action remains clear: Puerto Vallarta’s natural beauty is a shared treasure, and protecting it requires collective effort and a commitment from both the authorities and the public.
