PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – Meteorological authorities have forecast significant tropical activity across Mexico over the weekend and into the start of next week.
Tropical wave No. 6 is set to sweep across the southern coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán on Saturday and Sunday, promising intense downpours over these regions. Simultaneously, a low-pressure area is forming in the Mexican South Pacific with high chances of cyclonic development, potentially leading to the season’s first tropical storm in the Pacific Hurrican Season of 2023.
If the tropical wave formation continues as predicted with 80% certainty, it could take on the name of Tropical Storm Adrian early next week.
The tropical disturbance is projected to drift slowly to the west-northwest, skirting the coasts of Oaxaca and Guerrero. This movement is expected to generate heavy to very heavy rainfall across the southern and southeastern regions of Mexico. Particular areas of concern are Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guerrero, which are likely to face intense rainfall that could significantly increase the water levels of rivers and streams.
Experts warn that these weather conditions may trigger landslides and flooding in low-lying areas, posing significant risks to both local communities and infrastructure. Residents have been advised to stay updated on weather bulletins and to prepare for possible evacuations in the event of severe flooding.
Adding to the extreme weather pattern, a new tropical wave is set to enter and traverse the Yucatan Peninsula and the Mexican southeast, causing very heavy rains at intense points in these regions. This significant tropical activity is a reminder of the dangers posed by the rainy season and underlines the importance of ongoing preparedness and early warning efforts.
As the situation continues to evolve, national and local authorities are coordinating their response to ensure that potentially affected areas are provided with timely information and support. They urge citizens to remain vigilant and follow the instructions provided by the local disaster management authorities.
