‘Vallarta Facade’ Project to Revitalize The Historic Center of Puerto Vallarta Begins This Week

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – The municipal government of Puerto Vallarta has announced the launch of the ‘Vallarta Facade’ project, a significant initiative aimed at improving, beautifying, rescuing, protecting, and preserving the visual and urban image of the city’s Historic Center. This campaign, set to begin this week, seeks to engage the community in revitalizing the aesthetic appeal of the area in compliance with the municipality’s Image and Identity Regulations.

At a press conference led by interim mayor Francisco José Martínez Gil, key agreements with residents, merchants, and business owners in the Historic Center were disclosed. These agreements have been over a year in the making, aiming to ensure the project aligns with municipal regulations and community interests.

Mayor Martínez Gil, accompanied by the Director of Tourism and Economic Development, Christian Preciado Cázares, and the Deputy Director of Inspection and Regulations, José Omar Guerra Valdez, outlined the project’s objectives. Dr. Jimena Vanina Odetti from the Academic Body of Design and Innovation at the Higher Technological Institute of Jalisco in Puerto Vallarta, and Jesús Palacios Bernal, president of the Union of Urban Farms of the Center, were also present to support the initiative.

The mayor emphasized the project’s goal to motivate residents, merchants, and business owners to paint and improve their facades. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance the city’s visual identity while respecting its historical roots. A specially developed color palette, created by Dr. Odetti in collaboration with the Benjamin Moore company, will guide the renovations. The palette features a variety of tones derived from the traditional terracotta color for dust covers, frames, and moldings, with white as the predominant color. This approach respects the city’s tradition and identity while offering a harmonious diversity of colors.

Christian Preciado, Director of Tourism and Economic Development, reiterated that the project has involved extensive consultations and meetings over the past year with various stakeholders, including neighbors, associations, and property owners. The aim is to rescue and enhance the urban image of the center, in line with the updated 2018 Image and Identity Regulations. These regulations set forth a series of obligations to be met without resorting to fines or sanctions.

A census conducted as part of the project revealed 1,470 inhabited houses and premises, alongside 249 abandoned properties in the center. Efforts will be made to engage the owners of these properties in the initiative, starting with a house-to-house and premises-to-premises campaign within the center’s designated area. This campaign aims to raise awareness and foster participation in the project’s conservation and improvement goals.

Preciado highlighted that the municipal government, along with some businesses, has already set an example by beginning to improve their own facades. The goal is to achieve a significantly enhanced visual image of the city by October or November.

Jesús Palacios Bernal, president of the Union of Urban Estates, praised the municipal government’s efforts to promote this beautification project. He emphasized the importance of collective participation from all citizens in this endeavor, recognizing the project’s benefits for the city.

During the press conference, Mayor Martínez Gil and Director Preciado presented recognitions to engineer José de Jesús Palacios Bernal for his invaluable support to the project. They also honored Arturo Iván Bautista, the representative of Benjamin Moore México, for the company’s sponsorship, and Dr. Jimena Vanina Odetti for creating the ‘Fachada Vallartense’ color palettes.

The ‘Vallarta Facade’ project marks a significant step towards preserving and enhancing Puerto Vallarta’s historic charm, inviting community involvement to ensure the city’s Historic Center continues to captivate residents and visitors alike.
