Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Vidanta Vallarta Golf Course is set to welcome the PGA TOUR Mexico Open at VidantaWorld for the fourth consecutive year, taking place from February 20 to 23. The prestigious tournament will feature some of the best international players from the PGA TOUR, solidifying its reputation as a premier event in professional golf.
Iván Chávez, Executive Vice President of Grupo Vidanta, recently joined the Advisory Board of the Mexican Golf Federation, the governing body of golf in Mexico. Chávez expressed his enthusiasm for the event and its broader significance:
“We are pleased to host the PGA TOUR Mexico Open at VidantaWorld for the fourth consecutive year. It is not just a tournament; it is a true celebration of Mexican culture, its stunning coastline, and warm hospitality. As a member of the Mexican Golf Federation Advisory Board, I am honored to contribute to the growth of professional golf and the transformative impact of sports tourism in our communities.”
The Vidanta Vallarta Course, an 18-hole, par-72 masterpiece designed by golf legend Greg Norman, spans 6,500 meters along the Ameca River. The course is renowned for its mountain views and meticulously maintained fairways, offering a world-class experience to players and spectators alike.
A Platform for Mexican Golf and Culture
This year’s tournament aims to further establish Vidanta Vallarta as one of Mexico’s most prominent venues for professional golf. Beyond the competition, the event highlights Mexican culture, emphasizing the region’s stunning landscapes and renowned hospitality.
The economic impact of hosting such a high-profile tournament is significant. Events like the PGA TOUR Mexico Open draw both national and international visitors, boosting local sectors such as hospitality, gastronomy, and transportation. This further cements Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit as elite tourist destinations.
A Legacy of Excellence
In its initial editions, the tournament has featured 17 Mexican golfers. The 2024 roster includes notable players such as Raúl Pereda, Sebastián Vázquez, Rodolfo Cazaubón, Álvaro Ortiz, Roberto Díaz, Santiago de la Fuente, Omar Morales, and José Antonio Safa.
The 2024 champion, American Jake Knapp, secured victory with an impressive score of 265 strokes, showcasing the high level of competition the event attracts.
Golf Tourism and Regional Development
Chávez underscored the event’s role as more than a sporting competition, describing it as a celebration of Mexican culture and a driver of economic growth:
“The relationship between sports tourism and economic development is clearly evident in PGA TOUR events. Attracting national and international visitors generates significant impacts in hotels, gastronomy, and transportation, helping position Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit as world-class destinations.”
As February approaches, the Vidanta Vallarta Golf Course is gearing up to deliver another unforgettable tournament, blending the best of professional golf with the unique charm of Mexico’s Pacific Coast.
