WestJet and Air Transat Increase Flights to Puerto Vallarta from Canada for Winter Season

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – Canadian airlines WestJet and Air Transat have announced plans to significantly increase their flight frequencies to Puerto Vallarta for the upcoming winter season, anticipating a surge in demand from foreign visitors. This move is set to bolster tourism in the region, providing more travel options for Canadian tourists seeking the warm, vibrant atmosphere of Mexico’s Pacific coast.

WestJet, one of Canada’s leading airlines, revealed its intention to boost the frequency of its flights from Winnipeg to Puerto Vallarta. During last year’s winter season, the airline operated a maximum of five weekly flights between December and April. However, for the 2024-2025 season, WestJet will increase this to seven weekly flights, marking a 17% rise in frequency. Additionally, the airline plans to deploy larger aircraft on several of its routes, which will increase the overall number of available seats to Puerto Vallarta by 5%.

WestJet’s expanded service will cover a wide range of Canadian cities, offering direct flights to Puerto Vallarta from Abbotsford, Comox, Kelowna, Prince George, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Toronto. This extensive network underscores the airline’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for travel to one of Mexico’s most popular vacation spots.

Similarly, Air Transat, another prominent Canadian carrier, announced that it will add an additional weekly flight on its recently launched Montreal to Puerto Vallarta route. This increase will be effective from February 11 to March 25, 2025, during the peak of the winter travel season. In addition to the direct flights from Montreal, Air Transat will also offer connectivity to Puerto Vallarta from other Canadian cities, including Toronto, via domestic flights operated in partnership with Porter Airlines.

The increase in flight frequencies by both WestJet and Air Transat highlights the continued appeal of Puerto Vallarta as a premier winter destination for Canadian travelers. The city, known for its beautiful beaches, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant nightlife, is expected to see a substantial influx of visitors, contributing positively to the local economy.

This development comes at a time when the tourism industry in Puerto Vallarta is experiencing steady growth, with more airlines recognizing the potential of this destination. The increased connectivity from Canada is not only expected to facilitate more significant tourism activity but also to strengthen the ties between the two nations, as more Canadians opt to escape the harsh winter by traveling to the sunny shores of Puerto Vallarta.

As the winter season approaches, travelers can look forward to more flight options and greater flexibility, ensuring that Puerto Vallarta remains a top choice for those seeking a warm getaway. The tourism sector in Puerto Vallarta, including local businesses and hospitality services, is preparing to welcome the increased number of visitors, promising an exceptional experience for all.
