6th Edition of Kukur Tihar Puerto Vallarta to Honor the Bond Between Humans and Animals

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – Details have been announced for the upcoming sixth edition of Kukur Tihar Puerto Vallarta, an event dedicated to celebrating the unique bond between humans and animals. Scheduled for Saturday, November 9, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., the celebration invites locals and visitors to pay homage to their pets in an inclusive, open-air setting. Martha Dau, the event’s host and coordinator of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the event’s purpose, stating, “It is a day to honor and thank the love of our pets.”

Celebrating Nepali Roots and Mexican Tradition

Kukur Tihar, originating from Nepal, is traditionally a ceremony held to celebrate and give thanks to animals, particularly dogs, viewed as “ambassadors” of companionship and loyalty on Earth. This year’s Puerto Vallarta event brings together the spirit of Nepal’s Kukur Tihar and the Mexican tradition of Día de Muertos, aiming to create a spiritually enriching celebration that reflects gratitude for animal companionship. The cultural fusion honors dogs and other animals while highlighting the enduring connection between humans and animals within the region.

Event Details and Guidelines

The Kukur Tihar celebration will be held at a spacious 2,000-square-meter garden esplanade in a hotel in the northern part of Puerto Vallarta. The location, which has hosted the event for over eight years, offers ample space for Vallarta residents to participate and celebrate with their dogs. Festivities will culminate with a special closing ceremony scheduled for 9 p.m., symbolizing a peaceful conclusion to a day of reflection and appreciation.

Admission to the event is free, but attendees are asked to adhere to safety guidelines. Dogs must wear a collar, leash, and identification tag. To maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all, organizers have outlined that aggressive dogs, dogs in heat, and pets of other species will not be allowed at the event.

Supporting Animal Welfare Organizations

Organizers are calling on attendees to bring packaged dog food to donate to local animal welfare organizations. Contributions will not only aid these associations but will also provide donors a chance to participate in a raffle for prizes from event sponsors. Additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase, with proceeds going toward the beneficiary organizations, reinforcing the event’s broader mission to support animal welfare.

A Tradition for Puerto Vallarta

This year’s Kukur Tihar Puerto Vallarta represents the enduring legacy of a Nepalese tradition adapted to Mexican customs, and it reflects Puerto Vallarta’s growing commitment to celebrating and supporting the local pet community. As attendees gather on November 9 to honor the cherished role of animals, the event promises to continue strengthening bonds within the community and to highlight the unique connection between people and their pets.
