“I maintain that the United States government decides which narco to favor so that it supplies the country with drugs,” explains Mexican politician, PT Deputy Gerardo Fernández Noroña, who 12 years after shouting “murderer” at Genaro García Luna, then secretary of Security, assures that the US is only now putting Luna on trial because he no longer serves a purpose to the United States.
During García Luna’s appearances in committees of the Chamber of Deputies, Noroña repeatedly told him that he was a murderer and that the official was involved in actions that favored Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán and the Cartel from Sinaloa.
Now, the deputy acknowledges that the former police chief pays for all the crimes he committed (he has four charges for drug trafficking and one for false statements); However, this trial is a “circus”, which stems from a political decision by the US authorities to bring charges against him not only because he’s no longer useful in helping bring drugs into the United States.
“I want to say that the United States government is very hypocritical, of course, they knew about García Luna since I told them, just like President Calderón, of course, they knew,” said the deputy in an interview with El Financiero.
Fernández Noroña questions the US authorities such as the Drug Control Administration (DEA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) about how it was possible that they did not know about the illegal actions of which García Luna is accused today, if he, being one of 500 deputies, did know about the case.
According to his testimony, the government of Felipe Calderón and the United States worked hand in hand to help the Sinaloa Cartel and for it to transfer drugs to the United States.
Noroña answers what will happen with the trial of García Luna and the benefit of the US authorities with the narco.
The deputy points out that at the moment he does not expect much from the trial against García Luna; however, if this process were “seriously and thoroughly” it would be “positive” for the fight against drug trafficking, although he fears otherwise.
“It is a political decision that the United States government made… Well, it is partly a circus, of that size, I don’t think they are serious and thorough, because what they say they already knew… they always knew.”
The deputy maintains that drug money is part of the reproduction of capital in the United States, and the government decides which criminal group to favor for the entry of drugs into the country, “the largest market in the world” in his words.
“I would be surprised if the links between the CIA and the DEA with ‘El Chapo’ came out, that would be interesting if it were discussed in the United States. But they will be careful that it does not come out, I am not saying that García Luna is not responsible ”, the Deputy says.
Noroña assures that he is not happy with what García Luna is experiencing and does not celebrate calling him a killer in the Lower House; However, the official confronts the system as a consequence of the “terrible things” Luna did, and “now that he is not useful, they have thrown him to the lions.”
Finally, the legislator argues that former President Felipe Calderón of Mexico should also be accused, since he “knew” about García Luna’s illegal acts, although he has denied it on different occasions, and together they “bloodied the country for responding to the interests” of the United States.
“You have to review that part, because it cannot be that they (the United States) continue consuming from that war, where are the anti-drug operations there and in Europe? They are deeply hypocritical. We must discuss, sit down with the US government and explain that we are not going anywhere, and it is our people who pay for the drug trade,” Noroña said angrily.
He assures that current Mexican President López Obrador has made progress on the drug issue; However, his work is insufficient to eradicate the entire problem, so one of the alternatives is to start the talk about the legalization of some drugs.
