Many Americans Are Choosing to Spend Thanksgiving in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — As Thanksgiving approaches in the United States on Thursday, November 28, popular Mexican destinations such as Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, and Los Cabos are gearing up for a significant increase in hotel occupancy. The local Hotel and Motel Association projects near 90 percent occupancy rates, driven by both the holiday influx and travelers extending their stays into the weekend.

The surge in tourism is attributed to these regions’ renowned warm climates, picturesque beaches, and convenient proximity to the United States. Additionally, the recent election of Donald Trump as president-elect is expected to bolster the economy, instilling greater confidence among American travelers and potentially increasing the number of visitors to Mexico.

According to the Allianz Partners USA Index of the 10 Best Destinations for Thanksgiving 2024, Puerto Vallarta has secured a spot in the top three destinations worldwide for the fourth consecutive year. This recognition highlights the city’s enduring appeal as a prime getaway destination during the holiday season.

Following a successful long weekend, Puerto Vallarta has intensified its promotional efforts, offering attractive vacation packages tailored to various U.S. markets, particularly in California. Numerous promotions have also been launched specifically for Thanksgiving Day, aiming to capture the interest of American tourists seeking a warm escape from the cold.

“We are thrilled with the anticipated occupancy levels this Thanksgiving,” said a spokesperson for the Puerto Vallarta Hotel and Motel Association. “Our efforts to provide exceptional packages and services have clearly resonated with travelers, and we expect a vibrant and bustling season ahead.”

Many Americans are choosing to celebrate Thanksgiving in Puerto Vallarta, drawn by the city’s excellent dining options that feature diverse menus tailored for the holiday. The onset of the high winter season has further amplified the destination’s appeal. Earlier this month, the Buen Fin shopping event attracted numerous visitors, contributing significantly to the local economy and setting a positive tone for the holiday season.

Moreover, the unusually low temperatures in northern parts of the United States have prompted more tourists to seek refuge in Puerto Vallarta’s warm climate. “With the weather turning colder up north, more people are looking to enjoy our sunny beaches and pleasant temperatures,” added the association spokesperson.

As Thanksgiving Day approaches, Mexican resorts are poised to welcome a wave of American tourists eager to extend their vacations and enjoy the festive season in some of the country’s most beautiful locales. With robust promotions and a reputation for excellence, destinations like Puerto Vallarta are set to shine during this holiday period.
