Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In a bid to foster collaboration and enhance tourism along the Mexican Pacific, the Pacific Tourism Alliance was officially formed this Friday. The alliance, comprising the Secretaries of Tourism from the 11 states along Mexico’s Pacific coast, convened for its First Working Session in Puerto Vallarta. The meeting marked a significant step toward unifying efforts to promote the region as a collective destination.
The session, hosted by Michel Fridman, featured key representatives, including Miguel Aguiñaga Rodríguez from Baja California and Roberto Gradillas Pineda from Sonora. Fridman emphasized the importance of aligning strategies across the region, highlighting how cooperation could elevate the Mexican Pacific’s global appeal.
At the meeting, it was decided that Simón Quiñones Orozco, Secretary of Tourism for Guerrero, will serve as the coordinator for this new organization.
Agreements Reached
Among the alliance’s first resolutions was an appeal to federal authorities to allocate revenue from the newly implemented cruise passenger tax to benefit the shipping sector. Additionally, plans are underway for a feasibility study on several infrastructure projects, such as creating a port hub and a “nautical ladder” to boost maritime connectivity.
“We are going to design a joint plan to promote tourism for those projects or themes that unite us as the Mexican Pacific, leaving out the individuality of the projects and strategies of each of the states,” said Fridman. The unified strategy aims to harness the region’s collective strengths rather than focusing solely on state-specific initiatives.
Signing Agreement at FITUR
One of the alliance’s first official actions will be the signing of a letter of intent at FITUR, the International Tourism Trade Fair held annually in Madrid, Spain. This agreement will formalize the group’s commitment to joint tourism development and promotion.
“We are joining forces to design a joint tourism development and promotion project, which will bear fruit in the medium term, but above all by working as a team,” Fridman added.
A Vision for the Future
The Pacific Tourism Alliance represents a landmark effort to position the Mexican Pacific as a premier destination for both domestic and international travelers. By prioritizing collaboration and shared goals, the alliance hopes to create sustainable tourism opportunities that benefit all 11 coastal states while preserving the region’s unique cultural and natural heritage.
This initiative sets the stage for more coordinated efforts to enhance the infrastructure, services, and promotional strategies needed to elevate the Mexican Pacific’s profile on the global tourism map.
