Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The holiday season is in full swing, and with it comes opportunities for travel and getaways. However, so does the risk of running into scams and frauds that can ruin your experience. Aware of this problem, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) launched the “2024 Summer Vacation Operation” to protect tourists and ensure a season free of setbacks.
What is the 2024 Summer Vacation Operation?
The operation, which began on July 17 and will continue until August 25, has as its main objective the surveillance and verification of products and services offered during the holiday season. David Aguilar Romero, head of Profeco, emphasizes the importance of being cautious with suspiciously cheap offers and travel packages purchased through social networks.
“It is crucial not to fall into the trap of buying travel packages at extremely low prices on unverified platforms. Avoid making payments through convenience stores or transfers to accounts sent via WhatsApp,” warned Aguilar Romero.
To offer a quick and effective solution to vacationers, Profeco has set up permanent modules in several high-traffic international airports:
- Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA)
- Mexico City Benito Juárez International Airport (AICM)
- Cancun International Airport
- Felipe Carrillo Puerto Tulum International Airport
- Guadalajara Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport
In addition, temporary modules were installed at the airports of Mérida, Querétaro, Guanajuato, Villahermosa, Puerto Vallarta, Monterrey, Tijuana, Los Cabos, and Toluca, as well as at the main bus terminals in the country.
Immediate Advice and Conciliation
The operation is not limited to airports; it also extends to hotels, resorts, restaurants, and seasonal clothing and footwear stores. Profeco seeks to ensure that travelers can resolve any inconvenience without their vacations being interrupted.
In case of problems, tourists can contact Profeco through the consumer telephone number 55 5568 8722, available to handle complaints throughout the country.

This year, the focus is on ensuring that trips are as pleasant and free of unpleasant surprises as possible.
David Aguilar Romero also urges providers to display clear prices, respect discounts for seniors, students, and teachers, and avoid discriminatory practices and undue charges.
