68th Puerto Vallarta International Fishing Tournament Kicks Off

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico — The annual Puerto Vallarta International Fishing Tournament, renowned as the region’s most traditional competition, officially commenced this Thursday, drawing anglers from around the globe to compete for top honors.

In its 68th edition, the tournament saw 35 teams register, all eager to showcase their skills in pursuit of the largest Marlin, Tuna, and Dorado. Early this morning, the competitors set sail from the Hotel Rosita boardwalk, marking the start of an intense three-day fishing extravaganza.

The event began with a solemn ceremony where participants paid tribute to the national flag, accompanied by the stirring melodies of the War Band and the Escort of the Eighth Naval Zone of the Navy. This ceremonial start underscored the tournament’s deep-rooted traditions and its significance within the community.

The inauguration was officiated by Misael López Muro, representing the Municipal President, alongside Architect Luis Ernesto Munguía, who extended his best wishes to all participants. Their presence highlighted the local government’s support and the event’s importance to Puerto Vallarta’s cultural and economic landscape.

Prominent members of the Fishing Club, including David Zaragoza Camacho and Saúl Barajas Contreras, were also in attendance, lending their expertise and experience to the proceedings. Their leadership is instrumental in maintaining the tournament’s esteemed reputation year after year.

Throughout the three days of competition, anglers will vie for the prized catches, with the reception of the catches scheduled to take place at the Marina Boardwalk adjacent to the Marina del Rey Condominiums. The reception is set to run from 2 to 4 pm each day, providing a festive atmosphere where competitors and spectators alike can celebrate the day’s achievements and share in the camaraderie of the fishing community.
