76 New Public Transportation Buses to Arrive in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As part of a comprehensive plan to modernize public transportation in Puerto Vallarta, 76 new buses are scheduled to arrive this Friday, February 7. However, these units will not be put into service immediately as they require labeling and the installation of air conditioning systems. The buses are expected to be operational no later than February 17, according to Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro, who made the announcement during a brief visit to the city.

Governor Lemus Navarro emphasized the state’s commitment to improving public transportation services in the coastal destination, which faces ongoing challenges due to a shortage of functional buses. Currently, there are 200 buses in circulation, including 50 recently added units. With the arrival of the new fleet, the total number of buses in service will rise to 281, covering all 31 routes in Puerto Vallarta.

The governor acknowledged the urgent need for immediate solutions, stating that these new buses are part of an emergency response to address the current shortfall. However, he reiterated the state’s long-term vision for a modern and sustainable public transport system, which includes the introduction of electric buses along key routes.

In October, a project to introduce electric buses along Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue will begin, marking a significant step forward in the city’s transportation overhaul. Lemus Navarro confirmed that 38 articulated electric buses, sourced from China, have already been ordered and are expected to arrive in September. All units will be equipped with air conditioning for passenger comfort.

The modernization initiative involves an investment of over 867 million pesos. The articulated electric buses will serve a critical route connecting the University Center of the Coast (CUCosta) to the city center, significantly enhancing mobility for residents, students, and tourists alike.

“This is a very important step in the modernization of public transportation in Puerto Vallarta,” said Governor Lemus Navarro. “We are committed to providing better, more efficient services for the people of this city.”

Governor Lemus Navarro also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to maintaining affordable transportation fares and supporting discount programs. The Mi Pasaje program, which offers fare discounts for students, will continue. Additionally, senior citizens will still benefit from reduced rates, and the standard fare will remain at 10 pesos.

The arrival of the new buses and the future deployment of electric units signal a transformative phase for public transportation in Puerto Vallarta. As the city continues to grow and attract both residents and tourists, these measures aim to alleviate current challenges and create a more sustainable and accessible transportation network.

Further updates on the deployment of the new buses and the progress of the electric bus project are expected in the coming months.
