Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – As the Day of the Dead festivities approach, authorities in Puerto Vallarta are gearing up for enhanced security measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for both residents and tourists. Commissioner Rigoberto Flores Parra of the Citizen Security Directorate has announced that at least 200 law enforcement officers will be deployed to oversee cemeteries and recreational zones throughout this popular tourist locale.
The operational plan for the celebrations, according to Commissioner Flores Parra, will begin in earnest on October 30th. “We have already strategically put together an operation, starting in person on the 30th,” said Flores Parra. He emphasized the significant police presence that will be felt particularly in the area commonly known as the tourist strip.
In addition to general patrolling, specific attention will be given to the boardwalk region, an area of high traffic during this season, particularly due to the Catrinas theme that characterizes the Day of the Dead celebrations. “We already have elements deployed in the boardwalk area, due to the Catrinas theme, on the first and second day in the cemeteries throughout the port,” he added.
Commissioner Flores Parra elaborated on the special arrangements for the peak days of the celebrations, which fall on November 1 and 2. “We are going to join the pantheons that we have already monitored, based on experiences from years ago, and even more so on the 2nd (of November), which is the very day,” he explained. To this end, more than 200 officers will be distributed across the eight most significant cemeteries in the area. Notable among these are the 5 de Diciembre pantheon, the El Progreso neighborhood pantheon, and the pantheon in Ramblases.
In conjunction with these security measures, the city will also host a series of artistic and cultural events on the tourist strip for public enjoyment. Among the highlights is the exhibition of the largest Catrina in the world, along with dozens of monumental altars and Catrinas that will grace the city center.
The extensive security operation and cultural offerings reflect the city’s commitment to ensuring that the Day of the Dead celebrations are not only enriching but also secure for all who participate, thereby maintaining Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a top destination for cultural tourism.
