Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – With the commencement of the hurricane and storm season, the Government of Jalisco has allocated 85.4 million pesos for support and relief efforts in the event of natural disasters. According to the 2024 Expenditure Budget, the primary source of this funding is the State Fund for Natural Disasters (Foeden), which has been allocated 50 million pesos this year.
In addition to the Foeden allocation, the Secretariat of Environment and Territorial Development has earmarked 24.5 million pesos for the leasing of vehicles to assist the population during disasters. Furthermore, the Secretariat of Administration has designated another 10.9 million pesos for disaster response purposes, bringing the total support fund to 85.4 million pesos.
The National Water Commission has forecasted between 8 and 15 tropical storms in the Pacific, with the possibility of hurricanes that could impact Jalisco. Last year, the state experienced the devastating effects of Hurricane “Lidia,” which caused severe damage in Puerto Vallarta, including mountain landslides and the overflowing of main channels.
The proactive measures by the Jalisco government aim to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters and ensure that the necessary resources and support are available to the affected communities. The allocation of these funds underscores the government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of its residents as the region braces for the hurricane season.
