Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — Alejandro Torres Magaña, the director of the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Association, has announced that local lodging establishments are gearing up for the upcoming 2024 hurricane season. Efforts are focused on safeguarding both the properties and the well-being of collaborators and tourists through the establishment of protection brigades.
“We are very attentive to the communications from the Ministry of Tourism and also from Civil Protection, mainly, since they inform us how the cyclones are developing and we are very attentive to attend to any emergency situation,” stated Torres Magaña. He emphasized the recurrent challenge meteorological phenomena pose to the hotel industry and highlighted their rigorous training, civil protection brigades, and constant updates on weather conditions to ensure preparedness for any eventuality.
Key measures within the emergency plan include the removal of beach furniture such as chairs, lounge chairs, tables, and palapas in anticipation of strong winds or high waves, preventing these items from becoming dangerous projectiles. Additionally, hotels are identifying optimal areas for added protection or arranging temporary shelters for tourists if needed.
Reflecting on the aftermath of Hurricane Lidia, which struck Puerto Vallarta in October of last year, Torres Magaña noted that 20 lodging establishments were affected, primarily due to power outages. Most of these establishments were situated in the southern zone, with a few in the northern zone.
The proactive approach by the Puerto Vallarta Hotel Association underscores the commitment to maintaining safety and minimizing disruptions during the impending storm season, ensuring that Puerto Vallarta remains a safe and welcoming destination for all visitors.
