Puerto Vallarta Welcomes Over 3.2 Million Tourists by Air in First Five Months of 2024

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The scenic coastal city of Puerto Vallarta has experienced a significant influx of tourists in the first five months of 2024, with more than 3.2 million visitors arriving by air. This surge in tourism, as reported by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), underscores the city’s growing appeal as a premier destination.

According to GAP, which operates the city’s air terminal, the Vallarta airport welcomed 509,800 passengers in May 2024 alone. This marks a 3.2 percent increase compared to May 2023, when the airport recorded 494,100 passengers. This uptick is notable, considering May is traditionally part of the low season for tourism.

Cumulatively, from January to May 2024, the airport saw a total of 3,247,400 passengers. This figure represents a 2.9 percent rise from the same period in 2023, which had 3,154,800 passengers. Notably, Puerto Vallarta’s airport remains the only one among GAP’s national airports that has consistently reported higher passenger numbers than the previous year.

Breaking down the statistics, domestic flights brought 250,200 passengers to Puerto Vallarta in May 2024, a 5.2 percent increase from May 2023’s 237,900 passengers. However, over the first five months of the year, domestic arrivals totaled 1,057,800, which is a 7.0 percent decrease compared to 2023’s 1,137,600 domestic passengers.

On the international front, 259,600 passengers arrived in May 2024, showing a modest 1.4 percent growth from May 2023, which had 256,200 international arrivals. This sector’s growth has been instrumental in sustaining the upward trend for the destination. From January to May 2024, international arrivals reached 2,189,700, an 8.6 percent increase from the 2,017,100 international passengers recorded during the same period in 2023.

The continued growth in international tourism highlights Puerto Vallarta’s appeal to travelers from abroad, reinforcing its status as a sought-after destination. The increase in passenger numbers also underscores the city’s robust tourism infrastructure and its ongoing efforts to attract and accommodate visitors from around the world.

As Puerto Vallarta continues to thrive as a tourism hotspot, these figures reflect the successful strategies employed by local authorities and businesses to enhance the visitor experience and promote the city’s natural and cultural attractions. With the sustained growth in tourist arrivals, Puerto Vallarta is poised to maintain its position as a top choice for travelers seeking a vibrant and picturesque getaway.
