At least three schools were evacuated when a fire broke out in an abandoned restaurant in the Paso Ancho neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta.
According to municipal police, around 07:30 a.m. on Wednesday, it was reported that under the bridge towards Paso Ancho, an abandoned restaurant was being consumed by flames, to which Civil Protection and Firefighters immediately responded.
Due to the proximity of the 84 Valentín Gómez Farías Secondary School, the Benito Juárez elementary school, and the Miguel Hidalgo preschool, the PC authorities decided to evacuate the educational establishments in a preventive manner, for which hundreds of minors evacuated their classrooms and returned to their homes.
Upon their arrival, the municipal elements aboard units PC-85 and 87, as well as PC-191, supported by the state company PT-278, began to put out the flames, extending the work for several hours.
Despite the fact that the incident consumed a large part of the palapa of the abandoned restaurant and caused damage to the electrical system, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
