Tragic Accident on Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue Claims Two Lives in Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco — A devastating accident late Sunday night on Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue in Puerto Vallarta resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left another critically injured. The tragic incident occurred just minutes before midnight on August 18, when a public service vehicle crashed near Marina Vallarta.

The vehicle involved in the accident was a white and yellow Chevrolet Aveo, marked with taxi number 1762 of site 9. The taxi was reportedly traveling at high speed in the central lanes, heading in a north-south direction. The driver, along with two passengers, was en route when the vehicle encountered a hazardous curve between Marina Vallarta and Plaza Iguana.

According to initial investigations by local authorities, the accident was precipitated by a combination of excessive speed and a wet road surface. These factors caused the taxi’s tires to skid, leading the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The out-of-control taxi careened into the central median, where it violently collided with three palm trees before coming to a halt after crashing into a streetlight.

The severity of the crash prompted an immediate response. The incident was reported to emergency services through a 911 call, which described a rollover accident with multiple injured persons. Elements of the Marina Vallarta Tourist Police were among the first to arrive at the scene, quickly securing the area and calling for urgent medical assistance.

Paramedics from the Red Cross, along with firefighters, arrived shortly after. Despite their swift efforts, two of the three occupants in the vehicle, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant, a passenger, was critically injured and was transported to the Regional Hospital for urgent medical treatment. The current condition of this individual remains unknown.

In the aftermath of the accident, the Puerto Vallarta Police and Traffic Department cordoned off the crash site to facilitate the ongoing investigation. The Public Prosecutor’s Office was promptly notified and has since taken control of the investigation to determine the precise circumstances that led to the fatal incident. Personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (SEMEFO) and the Investigative Police were also present at the scene to carry out the removal of the bodies and collect necessary evidence.
