PUERTO VALLARTA (PVDN) – As the hurricane season picks up, authorities in Puerto Vallarta are leaving no stone unturned to safeguard local residents and visitors. Up to 18 temporary shelters will be set up across the city, according to the Municipal Civil Protection Council, in a bid to protect those at risk during potential hurricane events.
These shelters will be located in various neighborhoods and made available as and when the need arises, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations have safe havens close to their homes. The Municipal Civil Protection Council has signed agreements with multiple educational institutions and organizations, transforming their premises into temporary shelters during emergencies.
Alongside providing a safe refuge, the temporary shelters will be stocked with necessary supplies and support services. A multifaceted team of social workers, psychologists, lawyers, kitchen staff, and operations personnel will be on standby, prepared to address diverse needs during such emergencies.
Coapinole Day House facilities are set to serve a crucial role during this hurricane season, functioning not only as a temporary shelter but also as a distribution center for supplies to other shelters across the city.
“The wellbeing of our residents and visitors is our top priority,” a spokesperson for the Municipal Civil Protection Council stated. “With these measures in place, we hope to minimize the impact of potential hurricanes and ensure quick recovery.”
According to the National Meteorological Service, this year’s hurricane season could see between 16 and 22 tropical cyclones in the Pacific. This includes 9 to 11 potential tropical storms and 7 to 11 hurricanes, with 3 to 5 reaching an intensity of category 3, 4, or 5.
